Coloring with a Child or Grandchild
Directions: Coloring together is fun. Several pictures are provided here (in a PDF) to download for your coloring. There should be two copies of each picture you can print or download, one for the child and one for the parent or grandparent. Ask the child to choose the first picture each of you will color separately. When a child is seated next to you while coloring, you will discover it is easier to carry on a conversation than is usually the case. Each picture can be a topic for sharing feelings, and experiences about the situation being colored.
After each of you finish one picture, that original art piece should become a gift offered to your partner. You will own an original of your child or grandchild’s work and s/he will have an original of yours. Later, complete the rest of the pictures. Notice when coloring together that the does not seek praise about what s/he has colored. This is because being together confirms the importance of what the two of you are doing as a team.
If you are a long-distance grandparent, talk about coloring on video chat. Then, take a photo of your picture using the cell phone and send it to your grandchild. Your grandchildren can do the same by having a parent send their pictures to you.
